Gokul Milk Union Election Drama: Satej Patil Wins 13 Seats as Recount Changes Result
The Kolhapur Gokul Milk Union election took a dramatic turn after a recount reversed Sachin Ghorpade's victory. Satej Patil's panel finished with 13 seats against Mahayuti's 12, amid confusion at the counting centre.
Elections were held for a total of 25 seats in the Gokul Milk Union. Candidates from the panel led by Satej Patil won 13 seats, while Mahayuti candidates secured 12. However, a candidate who had initially been declared victorious was later declared defeated, creating a major controversy during the counting process.
The election had become a prestige battle for several prominent political leaders. Satej Patil faced a direct challenge from Rajya Sabha MP Dhananjay Mahadik, Minister Hasan Mushrif and Chandrakant Patil. Despite the involvement of these senior leaders, the Mahayuti alliance suffered a setback. The Rajarshi Shahu Shetkari Samvichari Aghadi mounted a strong challenge and secured a victory that few had anticipated.
The defeats of Navid Mushrif and Shoumika Mahadik dealt a direct blow to the Mahayuti alliance. Shoumika Mahadik lost the election by just seven votes, making the result particularly significant.
Initially, the Gokul election results were being reported as 14-11 in favour of Satej Patil's alliance. Sachin Ghorpade, a candidate from the Satej Patil-led Samvichari Aghadi, had been declared elected. However, the result changed after a recount, during which Ghorpade was declared defeated.
Following the recount, Amar Patil, representing the Mahayuti-backed Pranit Chhatrapati Shahu Shetkari Vikas Aghadi, emerged victorious. The reversal meant that one candidate initially declared a winner from Satej Patil's panel lost the seat, changing the final tally to 13-12.
Amid these developments, the applications filed by Vishwas Patil and Yuvraj Patil seeking a recount were rejected. Several dramatic incidents unfolded throughout the day, culminating in intense confusion and commotion at the counting centre as the results changed.
Satej Patil subsequently reached the counting centre amid the turmoil. As soon as he arrived, party workers surrounded him. Patil maintained that he would not leave the centre until the official results were declared.
The election had drawn statewide attention, with uncertainty surrounding the outcome until the final stages of counting. The involvement of prominent political leaders and the reversal of an initially declared victory turned the Gokul Milk Union election into a closely contested battle, with the final 13-12 result highlighting the narrow margin between the two sides.
